Homelessness charity Shelter is calling for all political parties to commit to building 90,000 affordable social homes every year – with rents that are tied to local incomes.
It says the move will deliver a ‘lasting and ultimate solution to homelessness’.

UK house prices saw a slowdown in annual growth in April of just 0.6%, down from 1.6% in March, Nationwide reveals.
It also says that the month-on-month price fell 0.4% from March to April.

Year-on-year rents rise by 5.7% – voids remain stable
Rents continued their upward trajectory in April, with the latest figures from Goodlord showing a year-on-year increase of nearly 6% in England.
The average monthly rent now stands at £1,166, marking a £63 rise compared to April 2023.
