Chris Pincher arrives from the Foreign Office where he survived a inappropriate behaviour scandal three years ago after allegations appeared in a national newspaper.

A new housing
minister has been revealed following Boris Johnson’s brutal cabinet reshuffle
yesterday.

The new
minister is Chris Pincher, MP for Tamworth in the West Midlands who replaces Esther
McVey. Unlike
McVey, it is understood that Pincher will not be attending cabinet.

He is an
unlikely candidate for the job having enjoyed a ministerial and political
career almost exclusively at the Foreign Office, until now, and who has no political
experience of the housing market and its issues.

Pincher has also
been embroiled in controversy. Three years ago he voluntarily resigned the Tory
whip following national newspaper allegations about his behaviour after making
inappropriate comments to a former Olympic rower.

He apologised for causing any offence and was later cleared of breaking any Conservative party conduct rules.

Pincher said
last night on Twitter that he is delighted to be appointed as the new housing
minister for England, but that he was sad to be leaving the Foreign Office.

“This
Government will deliver on our commitment to build the housing that people
need. Looking forward to getting stuck in alongside

@RobertJenrick,”
he tweeted.Pincher has plenty to get stuck into within the private
rental sector, primarily helping steer through the government’s ‘new deal for
renting’. This includes guiding legislation through parliament that will see
greater regulation for landlords in England, implementing radical reform of the
evictions
process and the
setting up of a housing court.
